Farm Food Tour Trip Recap #FarmFoodTour
I had the privilege of attending a Farm Food Tour hosted by the Kansas Farm Bureau, the Kansas Pork Association and the Kansas Soybean Commission.
I learned so much about agriculture and the benefits of modern farming. It is always really interesting to me to be able to see inside a world I don’t see everyday. It is comforting to know that people are working hard every day to insure that we are all able to have food.
We first visited Elanco Animal Health where workers provide solutions for those who care for and raise animals. The company offers several benefits to helping animals including improving animal disease management, helping animals live longer, and reducing the impact of livestock production by increasing digestibility enzymes. Elanco also aims to provide the animals with a stress-free life.
We then dined at Edgewild Restaurant & Winery in Chesterfield. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if you’re ever in the area. The food was delicious and fresh. They have a large selection of flatbreads, salads, soups, and seafood. The truffle fries are also a no-brainer and the wine…amazing of course! I also toured Monsanto, a modern agriculture company, during my trip. Monsanto focuses on creating more easily sustainable agriculture methods that help produce more food with less waste. At the end of the tour we also heard from a bee keeper sharing how bees provide importance pertaining to agriculture. I learned about the issues facing bees and how important they are to our everyday lives.
Our last stop was The Central Missouri Meat & Sausage industry. They provide high quality meats at their processing plant. The company offers wholesale meats, Brinker Farms pork to grocery stores, supplies meat to restaurants, and even has a full menu restaurant and bar.
