Fashion Pieces That Look Good, but Are Hurting Your Health
They say that it hurts to look good, but should it really? Yes, we all know the pain that comes with wearing a pair of heels on a night out. But, are there any other secret culprits that are ruining our health? Read on to discover more about the clothing and accessories that could be causing a hazard to your health.
High heels – So, let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. There are a number of risks that come with wearing high heels. The first, of course, being that you could end up flat on your bum if you take a tumble. However, this is not the only thing you need to be concerned about. According to a study that was published in the International Journal of Clinical Practice, you can suffer from ankle muscle imbalance if you wear high heels several teams throughout the week. And, contrary to what some women may say, you don’t need to wear heels to look good. You can find out more about the farm to foot approach for luxurious comfort and shoes that look stylish. Treat yourself to a bit of TLC!
Last night’s pyjamas – Let’s be honest; most of us have stayed in our pyjamas for way longer than we should have. However, changing your pyjamas is just as important as changing your underwear, especially if you are someone that sleeps without the latter. This can result in bacteria getting into places you don’t want it to get into!
Restrictive shapewear – Over the past few years, the shapewear industry has exploded, with everything from control pants to corsets hitting the market. After all, who doesn’t want to look similar in their favourite clothing? While most of these products are harmless, if you go for shapewear that is too tight, it can squish your organs, resulting in acid reflux and stomach pain. The secret is to always buy your size – don’t go for a size smaller, no matter how tempting it may be. You should also avoid making shapewear part of your daily wardrobe; save it for special occasions.
Super-skinny jeans – You know, the type that make you feel like it is impossible to move! Skinny jeans can reduce blood flow to the lower legs because they compress nerves in the legs and the groin. This can cause numbness, as well as swelling and damage to the muscles. This may seem a bit extreme, but there was a case of a woman being admitted to hospital for four days because she had been squatting in her skinny jeans!
Underwire bras that have seen better days – Have you been holding onto a bra that has wire poking out of it simply because it is your favourite? Get rid! Your bra’s underwire will probably be made from nickel, as is the metal strap adjusters and the claps. You need to replace any bra that has under wiring poking out. Another tip is to use nail polish to paint strap hardware if you start to get itchy in that area.
So there you have it: some of our favourite fashion items that are actually hurting our health! It does NOT have to hurt to look good.
