Even though many actors and actresses portray famous twins in movies, they rarely are related in real life. Casting directors often get two performers who look similar enough to play twins. The duos below are the real deal.
Here are five famous twins in movies related in real life. If you see double, that is a good thing.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, also known as the Olsen twins, are famous for playing Michelle Tanner on the “Full House” television series. To get around child labor laws, they would take turns playing Tanner, prolonging the amount of time the character could be on set.
Taking off from “Full House,” the Olsen twins appeared in many movies and TV shows playing various sets of twins.
In 2012, the Olsen twins announced they were both officially retiring from acting. The last movie these famous twins appeared in together was “New York Minute” in 2004. Both actresses made separate guest appearances in various projects leading up to their retirement.
Since then, the pair have been focusing on their careers in the fashion industry. They founded the fashion label “The Row” in 2006, for which they won the “Womenswear Designer of the Year” award in 2012 and 2015.
Marvel fans will be familiar with their younger sister Elizabeth Olsen. She plays the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
James and Oliver Phelps
James and Oliver Phelps are famous for playing Fred and George Weasley in the “Harry Potter” franchise. The Weasley twins were infamous for playing pranks on Hogwarts students and professors. They loved practical jokes so much that they opened up a joke shop called “Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes” in Diagon Alley.
Recently, the Phelps twins debuted the third season of their podcast, “Normal Not Normal.” The podcast has had many guest stars from “Harry Potter” like Tom Felton and Evanna Lynch.
The Phelps twins are also jokesters like the characters they once played. In an interview at Gamescom 2010, a journalist asked the famous twin brothers if they were actually twins.
“It’s quite a weird story. We met at the auditions,” joked Oliver.
Dylan and Cole Sprouse
Dylan and Cole Sprouse came into the spotlight through their Disney Channel shows. The famous twins played Zack and Cody Martin on “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “The Suite Life on Deck.” Whether on land or by sea, Zack and Cody inadvertently caused chaos.
Nowadays, the Sprouse twins still act. Dylan has appeared in various movies over the past few years. He also wrote the “Sun Eater” comic book series.
Cole has been busy playing the character Jughead Jones on “Riverdale.”
Lukas and Elias Schwarz
Lukas and Elias Schwarz played twins in “Goodnight Mommy,” an Austrian psychological horror movie released in 2014.
“Goodnight Mommy” follows twins that think someone has replaced their mom following her facial surgery. The Schwarz twins have not been in any projects since the release of the movie.
Tia and Tamera Mowry
Tia and Tamera Mowry are known for appearing in many projects together like “Sister, Sister,” “Twitches,” and the “Tia and Tamera” reality series. In each of these productions, they played fictional twin sisters or themselves.
The Mowry twins still work on twin-related projects to this day. They teamed up to write the “Twintuition” book series, telling the story of twins who can see the future.
Tia still acts in multiple movies and TV shows. Tamera has appeared in many Hallmark and reality TV programs. Tamera also owns a winery with her husband in Napa Valley, CA.
