Great Indoor Activities For When You’re Getting Sick Of Screens
Screentime is a lovely thing when done in moderation. But in this day and age, using phones and tablets can get quickly out of hand! And while you can see this, the kids may not be able to. Which is where replacing screen time with other fun and involved activities comes in.
Kids have a lot to learn throughout their childhoods, and one of the best things to teach them is the power of their own imaginations. Things can be fun without needing to watch something on TV or play a video game, and you can go whole days without ever touching the iPad! So with that in mind, here are some great indoor activities to do as a family when you’re all getting a bit sick of loading up technology.
Set Up a Soft Play Course
A soft play course can be made up of various things, like cushions and blankets and make-shift forts. You can then jump around, fall into, wiggle under and leap over and just have a fun couple hours making a mess of the living room. Of course, then you’ll have to clean up, but that’s just another great lesson!
Go to the Local Pool
Going swimming is a great idea for young kids, and even as adults you can enjoy your time going lengthwise down the pool. And seeing as most pools are indoors and well warmed throughout the year, you won’t have to worry about the weather either!
However, if you haven’t quite taught the kids how to swim yet, you can look into swimming lessons near you and then sign on for a weekly class. This way you can be sure the whole family is getting out to do something physical at least once a week!
Unleash the Power of Science
Science might sound boring on the surface, but there are many experiments you can do at home that’ll leave the kids gasping in awe. Making an active volcano together, growing crystals in the window – there are hundreds of options you can safely do in your kitchen and have fun with together. All you need are a few kitchen essentials, such as baking soda or washing up liquid or salt, and then you can be away and watch science do its thing for the whole afternoon!
Bake Something Delicious
It’s always a bit of a worry to let the kids loose in the kitchen – that’s where all the sharp knives and chemicals under the sink are! However, if you guide the way in an afternoon long baking session, you’ll have nothing to worry about.
You can make cakes, cookies, brownies, biscuits, bread, loaves, literally anything! You can teach the kids about chemical reactions between ingredients and then let them lick the bowl out afterwards. That bit alone will keep them entertained for a while!
If you’re sick of screens, you don’t need to go out too far. Just find something else to do, like in the ideas above.
