Healthy Children: 4 Things You Should do to Make Your Home a Safe and Healthy Place

Every year, many children are injured and exposed to dangerous toxins in their own homes. However, your home should be a place where your kids feel safe and happy; it is a place to explore, play, and have adventures. There are several ways to help keep your kids safe and healthy at home.

Improve Indoor Air Quality

Improving indoor air quality can play a significant role in preventing asthma outbursts and various allergy symptoms in your kids. It can be a difficult task to get rid of all the allergens in your home. However, try as much as you can to reduce the buildup of pet dander, dust, and mold.

To improve the air quality in your home, consider using an air purification system or if you have one that is not functioning as well as it should, get Air Conditioning Maintenance. This will help you remove harmful organic substances from the air, trap pet dander and neutralize smoke from your fireplace.

Additionally, declutter your home and regularly clean the bedding, curtains, and other things that can attract allergens, especially if you have pets. Also, open windows to allow some fresh air into your house.

Electrical Safety

Electrical hazards lurk in your home every day, whether you see it or not. It is, therefore, essential to identify all hazards in your home. It is also important to note that kids are much curious than adults, and it is your responsibility to teach them the dangers of electricity.

By doing so, you will be enabling them to know what to avoid and also prevent others from doing that. However, if you have tiny kids who cannot recognize what is right or wrong:

  • Keep all metals away from the toaster
  • Keep water away from electrical appliances
  • Avoid buying or using fake chargers
  • Ensure that you have RCD protection
  • Keep all cords out of your kid’s reach
  • Switch off appliances when not in use

Fire Safety and Burns

You probably know that a fire incidence can be very dangerous and deadly, but did you know that if a fire starts in your home, you will have less than two minutes to get to safety? To protect your home from fire, install smoke alarms on all levels, and test the smoke alarms every month. Talk to your kids about a fire escape plan and teach them all about fire safety. Additionally, never leave burning candles unattended, keep many fire extinguishers in your home and use a proper heat source.

Hot liquids like soup, coffee, and tap water can cause severe burns to your kids. Ensure that you place hot foods and liquid away from your kid’s reach, and never hold your child together with a hot drink.

Choking Hazards

Chocking is one of the leading causes of death among toddlers. Therefore, make sure that you keep all small objects away from your toddler’s reach.

Your home must be a haven for your kids. Keep in mind that the safety need for your children will tend to change as they grow up. As infants, your kids will need protection from all the safety hazards lurking in your home, your toddlers will need supervision, and you should talk with your kids about safety
