How Men Are Portrayed in Frozen 2 + More From the Cast
Frozen came out in 2013 and became a huge hit and an instant classic for Disney. Six years later, we are getting Frozen 2 with the same cast and a few new additions. The story will dig deeper into the sisterhood of Elsa and Anna. Frozen 2 will be in theaters on November 22! Take the family and it will be a moment you won’t forget!
The Characters of Elsa and Anna
Frozen is a story about the emotion between these two sisters, Elsa and Anna. After some discussion between Kirsten and the story team, they came to realize maybe Elsa is not a villain. They really wanted to go deeper than that. That is where Let It Go happened. Let It Go is all about story and character. The story team wanted us to think about this sisterhood between Elsa and Anna and how it is a complicated and layered sisterhood.
The New Era of Disney Princesses
Josh Gad (Olaf) is thankful for his costars Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. They are just two role models for Josh’s two young daughters. He says, “I get to share this with two girls who get to look up to two fiercely, independent Disney princesses who I think are changing the way we view what a princess is.” Being apart of Frozen and Frozen 2 has been great for Josh and the fact he gets to share this with his daughters that is the greatest part of this journey for him. It has a personal touch to it.
Olaf’s Evolution
Josh Gad explains that in the first movie Olaf is an innocent ball of naivety who is willing to go out in the summer sun because he didn’t know any better. He just wanted to embrace it. In Frozen 2, Olaf has evolved. He has gone from toddler to fully grown child where he now starting to ask questions that don’t always have those easy answers. Questions that young child ask because they are curious about the world.
How Men Are Portrayed in Frozen 2
Kristen says that the representation that Jonathan gives as Kristoff and the guys is just out of the world. There is an egoless love that Anna and Kristoff have in Frozen 2. She says that people will be excited for how the men are portrayed in this film. Evan Rachel Wood (Queen Iduna) says, “He is prince sincere, not Prince Charming.”
Everyone Loves Idina Menzel
Who doesn’t love Idina Menzel! Josh Gad says he fell in love with her in college while watching Rent and Wicked. I am going to guess he wasn’t the only one. Now, she has touched people in all different ways. She has become a role model as Elsa in Frozen and Frozen 2!
The cast of Frozen agrees that Idina’s voice has this kind of warmth and vulnerability when she sings low, but as you bring her higher and higher, her voice just gets stronger and more powerful.
The praise of Idina Menzel didn’t stop there. The writers are so lucky they get to write for her. They said she is the one that inspires them to write these songs for the instrument she has in her voice. They all agree that they don’t know if Let It Go or Into The Unknown would be the hits they are without Idina Menzel.
How Audiences Should Feel After the Movie
When Kristen was asked how she would like audiences to feel when they leave frozen 2, her answer was simple, yet profound. “I hope when people leave they feel fulfilled, but they also feel like stepping into their unknown might be exciting,” she says.
