How to Get Your Travel Fix While At Home
Ah, COVID-19. How you have changed our entire world. With so many places closed and travel severely restricted, many travel plans have come to a halt. With no clear end in sight, it can be disheartening to not know when you’ll be able to finally go on that vacation you were so looking forward to.
Staying safe by reducing traveling is the most important thing at the moment. With that said, there are still some ways to get your traveling fix while you’re stuck at home!
Plan Out Your Next Trip
This might be a little counteractive since it could be yet another reminder of your lost vacation. However, I personally really enjoy planning trips. As a detail-oriented person, there’s nothing better than planning out a well organized trip. Figuring out all the details, logistics, and researching cool places to visit is not a chore to me at all! If this sounds like you, then try planning out your next trip so that when you’re finally able to travel, you’ll have your whole itinerary mapped out!
Reminisce About Past Trips
This is a great time to pull out your old photos and take a trip down memory lane! Remember the feeling you felt as you walked into your beachside hotel for the first side, or recall the delicious smell of the food at that amazing Italian restaurant. Talk with your family and friends about how your trip was and maybe recommend some restaurants, sights, and shops to them!
Make a Photo Album of Past Vacations
My family usually makes a photo album for most of the vacations we take. It’s a great way to memorialize your vacation and keep the memories close to you even as years pass. This is a great way to let your creative juices flow while getting some of your traveling fix in! Perhaps you can print out each photo and make a homemade scrapbook, or use an online website to create one and have it shipped to you, like Shutterfly.
Cook International Food
Even if you can’t experience another culture and its cuisine in real life, you can recreate the delicious food right in your own kitchen! Perhaps try some dishes from a country you’ve been wanting to visit for a while or cook a meal you’ve tried in another country. The possibilities are absolutely endless!

Read a Book or Watch a Movie About Another Culture/Country
If you’re super interested in the culture of a certain country, then find some books or movies on it! While you can’t experience the culture yourself for the foreseeable future, you can learn all about it through different mediums. In some cases, books can transport you to the country and make you feel like you’re already there. Use this time as an opportunity to learn as much as you can about different cultures and religions and countries

Relocate
If you want to be at home yet attain the traveling feel, then you could consider relocating. That way, you will get the best of both worlds. You can still be around your family and enjoy the beauty of the new destination that you are living in. You can have your home comforts and still get your travel fix.
Travel Podcasts
While you’re waiting for when you can finally travel again, listen to some travel podcasts to give you some information and inspiration! With a podcast, you aren’t actively staring at a screen, so your mind can wander and imagine the places being described. You can also listen to these podcasts while doing household chores and other tasks, to always make you feel like you have one foot in another wondrous country! Check out this site for some great travel podcasts you need to listen to ASAP.
Hopefully one of these suggestions will help you get your travel fix while staying safe at home! Hang in there and wear a mask! We will be able to travel again soon enough!
