How to Wash Crystals

First Method

This method of cleansing is a water method. You can substitute warm water with warm sea water or tap water.

First, prepare a small bowl of warm water and mild soap. You can also soak them in salt water.

Second, gently scrub your favourite crystals with soapy water using only your fingertips, not nails.

Third, rinse them in a separate bowl filled with fresh, cool water to remove any remaining particles from the soap.

Fourth, pat it dry gently with a clean towel to absorb excess water and set out in the sun again for an hour or two to make sure they're completely dried.

Lastly, once dry, your crystals are ready for use.

The easiest way to dry them is to place them near a bright light but do not let them bask in direct sunlight. Just be careful not to leave them out too long because all that moisture can lead to mold growth if left too long

Any leftover moisture can affect how well the wash works. It will also shorten the life of the crystal.

Second Method

Cleaning with Air and Light

Another crystal cleansing method is by blasting them with light from a bright source such as an overhead lamp or sunlight through a window. This method can be done in several hours, but it's not recommended for soft stones like Selenite because they may get scratched.

The best time to do this is during daylight since artificial lighting doesn't provide enough ultraviolet rays to evaporate the moisture in your stone.

First, soak your crystal(s) in mild soap and warm water for about fifteen minutes, making sure all areas are exposed so they absorb the water thoroughly. You can also substitute sea salt.

Next, rinse under cool, running water until the water is clear.

Lastly, place your crystal on a towel and blast it with ultraviolet light until it's completely dry.

Note: If you live in an area that doesn't get a lot of sunlight, try drying your crystals under a desk lamp instead.  That will work just as well to remove any leftover impurities, mineral deposits, or moisture from soaking.

Third Method

How to Wash Stones Boiling In Water

A few other types of crystals can be boiled in water to remove dust.  Be sure to use a stainless steel or iron pot, and avoid copper and aluminum.

Some crystals that can be boiled in water include clear quartz, rose quartz, selenite, rhodochrosite, stibnite, fluorite, malachite, azurite, moonstone, turquoise, and lapis lazuli.

1: Make sure your crystals are completely dry before boiling them.

2: Fill a pan with three to four inches of water and place over high heat until it starts to simmer.

3: Gently drop crystals into the water one by one using clean tongs or chopsticks (not your fingers!) and leave them there for five minutes at most.

Note: Do not add any crystals that are still wet.

Step 4: Use clean tongs to remove the crystal and rinse under cool, running water for a minute or so until you can hold it in your hand and it feels completely smooth and dry.

If necessary, gently scrub the stone with a soft toothbrush to remove any leftover dirt or particles from the boiling process.

The best way is to put them out in the sun for an hour or two so they dry completely before using them again.

Note: Some crystals may get discolored when boiled. Such as fluorite turning green, moonstone turning darker blue, and malachite oxidizing into deep emerald colors. This is okay since it's only temporary if the stones are.

These common methods keep your delicate crystals clean for a long time and even bring them back to their original state. Other methods use a water bath, moon water, rose petals, table salt, and cold water.

You may also use a singing bowl to help remove stubborn energy that may be stored in your crystals. A tuning fork can be used to cleanse crystals as well.

Things To Remember About Washing Crystals

Be careful not to drop your crystals.  If they scratch, it's likely the crystal will never be as clear or polished again after trying to clean them.

If you're looking for a quick fix that doesn't involve any water at all, try using plain rubbing alcohol on your crystals instead.

An effective way to clean them is to add about half an ounce of alcohol to a jar big enough to hold your crystal(s), and give it a gentle shake until all the dirt comes loose inside.

Let stand for several minutes before dumping out the liquid and allowing it to dry in sunlight or artificial light for an hour or two.

The good news is that clean water will make your crystal look like a new stone. A good rule of thumb is to clean all of your crystals at least once a month.
