Calling all Ice Age fans, a brand new film is coming your way! The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is an upcoming movie about the hilarious and adventurous Buck Wild.
The movie follows two brothers, Crash and Eddie, as they search for adventure. On their journey, they meet Buck Wild. All of your favorite Ice Age characters are back to join Buck Wild too, so the film is fun for old and new Ice Age fans!

Simon Pegg is the voice of Buck Wild. Pegg is known for his other works including Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible.
Justina Machado voices a new character Zee. Fans will recognize Machado from her roles in One Day at a Time and Six Feet Under.
John Donkin is the director of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. Donkin has worked on other films including Ice Age, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Robots, and Rio.
Lori Forte is the producer of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild as well as all other Ice Age films.
Creating The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild
Every few years there is a new Ice Age movie, and fans are always eager to see what the next adventure is! After making an appearance earlier in the Ice Age franchise, Buck Wild joins the ranks of feature film stars.
Buck’s voice actor Simon Pegg talks about how exciting it is to have a Buck Wild movie. Pegg mentions, “I’ve been dropping hints about this for 12 years.”
Simon adds that producer Lori Forte can, “Attest to this, every time we do it, I’m like, ‘Probably this Buck should have his thing. Maybe…’ The great thing about this is that the Ice Age story has so many fabulous characters in it, this is the era of the cinematic universe. I don’t think there is another animation, which is more suited to expansion like this. It’s great.”
All About Buck Wild
When expanding any franchise, there is a great deal of thought that goes into deciding what direction to take the project in. Lori Forte explains how this latest Ice Age film came to be.
She says, “I’ve really honestly been living in the Ice Age for the last 20 years. I’ve been living with all these saber tooth tigers and mammoths and possums and weasels for so long. Just the extension, like Simon said, it’s such a great franchise to open it up and to spend time with certain characters that we can’t get to see all the time.”
Lori adds, “We came up with Buck for Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which was the third Ice Age film. And it obviously it’s such a lovable and eccentric and wacky and joyful and adventurous character and Simon brought all of that to life for us. I mean, he is all those things I just mentioned, eccentric and joyful and wacky and lovable and wonderful.”
Simon Pegg also speaks more to his connection with his character. He says, “I do love Buck. I have a very strong affection for him, not least because he was born the same year my daughter was born. So the first time I played Buck was the year my kid was born and she’s grown up with those movies and with him.”
Pegg ass, “And weirdly as this new Ice Age installment comes out, my sister just gave birth this week. So there’s a new Ice Age baby to take the stories forward. So, it’s nothing but a joy to play Buck because it has all this kind of emotional resonance for me personally in my own family.
Great Characters
Justina Machado, who voices Zee, talks about getting to bring life to a new character in the Ice Age franchise. Machado says it is, “Exciting.” She also adds, “It was a lot of fun voicing somebody so strong, a social warrior, somebody who’s so rational and has it so together. That was a lot of fun.”
Justina talks more about her character Zee, sharing, “She’s just a lot of fun and it was so much fun going into the studio and working on her. It was just pure fun and she’s very funny and, as you can see, all the characters that she’s surrounded by are so great. I mean, one is funnier than the other, so it just was great fun to be a part of this.
Simon Pegg chimes in and shares his thoughts. Pegg says, “There are so many wonderful characters and in a movie you can only spend so much time with each one. So this is a lovely way to give over some time to not only Buck and Crash and Eddie, but also Zee and these new characters, which are welcome additions to this fabulous group.”
Life Lessons For All Ages
Fans of the Ice Age movies will tell you that each film is hilarious, heartwarming, and they also teach great life lessons. Director John Donkin speaks more to the true heart of The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild.
Donkin says, “Well, family has been a central theme all the way back to the first Ice Age movie.” He adds, “And there’s that great Sid line in the first one. It’s like, ‘I don’t know. We’re the weirdest herd ever,’ because it’s a saber-toothed tiger and the sloth and a mammoth and a human baby.”
Reinforcing how much the Ice Age films are about family, Donkin says, “So it is sort of in the DNA of the whole franchise to look at family as first of all, additive, it’s constantly growing. And it’s not necessarily bound by blood, but it’s more a loyalty between people, or animals. And so that’s just been thematic in all of the films. So it is really fun in this one to sort of explore the idea of, okay, so what happens if your family needs to grow and Crash and Eddie are yearning to be on their own and away from their adopted sister.”
What Audiences Should Know
Audiences and fans of all ages will adore The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. This film will make you laugh and pull at your heartstrings, just like all good movies do.
This upcoming Ice Age film is coming out at a great time in the world. Donkin explains, “Once you’re in a herd, which is our family, it’s a herd. They’re equivalent. Once you’re in a herd and you have that connection, it’s okay if there’s some physical separation between you, because there’s always going to be shared love and support.”
He continues, “That is resonant, I think right now, because so many of us are separated and isolated from family members and can’t just go and see them whenever we want, due to the global situation. So I think that will be a reminder to everybody that you have this connection with family, and it’s important. And they may be in different ways than you might think. They might not always be related to blood.”
Simon Pegg explains, “What’s beautiful about these films is that all that stuff is there, and it makes them feel very rich and very nuanced, but it is just enormous fun. It’s ridiculously silly, it’s relentlessly funny, it’s beautiful to look at. But all of that doesn’t mean anything unless it’s founded in something meaningful and real. And these films always have been that.”
