The Scoop on Alexa PenaVega and Her New Movie Destination Weddings
I’m throwing it back to my childhood as I interviewed beloved child actress Alexa PenaVega, best known for her role in the Spy Kids movies, or, my personal favorite, Sleepover. Beautiful and confident both then and now, Alexa has a new movie coming out, Destination Wedding, as part of the Hallmark Channel’s ‘June Weddings,’ a 4-week series of all things weddings and love. Of course, you can already guess that this movie is one for the heart, a feel-good romance made for a girls’ night in.

Was acting something you had always wanted to pursue?
I started when I was four and I can truly say it was my choice. I have always loved entertaining and to be able to have a family who was so supportive and allowed me to start when I did was beyond a blessing.
Which movie/show are you most proud of being a part of?
I feel like so many projects are special for different reasons. Whether it was the people I got to work with or the story we were telling– it is always so hard to choose! But one of my favorite roles was Hillary on “The Tomorrow People.” She was so tough to figure out. You didn’t know if you were rooting for her to succeed or to fail. I loved being a part of her journey.
Do you still keep in touch with your Spy Kids family?
I still keep in touch with a lot of the crew. They were so amazing!!! We did so many films together that they truly are my family. And OF COURSE my bro bro Daryl 🙂 He is my lifelong amigo.
Congratulations on the birth of your son, Ocean King! What’s the best part of being a mom?
The crazy amount of love you are capable of feeling. I had no idea I could love him so much. My life feels so full. Little O is the greatest blessing my husband and I could have ever hoped for.
You’re going to be in a new movie on Hallmark! Tell us a little about the movie, Destination Wedding.
Destination Wedding was such an adventure. We shot the film in Alcapulco and it felt like vacation the whole time!!!
The story is very fun and sweet. My sister is getting married in Mexico… and all is going well. The guests arrive… I arrive making sure everything is in order… but the bride and groom are still in Los Angeles and are trying to decide whether or not to call off the wedding!!!
What are you most excited for people to see in the Hallmark ‘June Weddings’ movies?
I love love. It is so fun watching love stories and watching people go through some of the same issues and “speed bumps” either you experienced during your own wedding, or to give you a heads up on what to expect.
And visually, who doesn’t want to see the decorations and the dresses and the flowers?!
What’s your everyday go-to beauty product?
Los Angeles is so drying. I am all about moisturizing CONSTANTLY. I will throw on some face lotion and mascara. That’s it.
What is one staple fashion item you use as a go-to for an everyday look?
Jeans and a white t-shirt. I was such a tomboy growing up and it pretty much rolled over into my adulthood. I do enjoy dressing up and getting pretty, but my everyday is jeans, a t-shirt and a flannel.
What is a quote you live by?
“As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another.” We are called to love and lift each other up. My husband and I both believe that we were given this platform for a reason and if we can inspire and “sharpen” those who watch us, then our work is complete.
