A Walt Disney Tribute
Dwayne Johnson shares that he immediately agreed to be part of Jungle Cruise. He explains his decision saying, “Well, the script was in a really good place, and I immediately just saw the potential of the opportunity.”
He also explains, “That opportunity was to take a beloved and iconic Disney ride, since 1955 when the park opened.” Johnson adds, “This was Walt Disney’s baby.”
Since the film is inspired by such a classic and fun Disney attraction, Johnson views this role as a tribute to Walt Disney himself!
Dwayne Johnson also says that “nostalgia” drew him to the project, adding, “I had ridden the ride when I was a kid.”
Emily Blunt shares that, “I only rode the Jungle Cruise ride two days ago at the premiere for the first time.” She then adds, “I loved it. I thought it was very whimsical and sweet. And I could see the elements from the ride that have made it into the film.”
Jack Whitehall chimes in sharing, “The element to the Jungle Cruise ride that I like the most, is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
He continues, “That is definitely something that we took over into the movie. And it has such ambition and scale, and it’s beautiful, and the sets are incredible.”
Jokes on Jokes
Jungle Cruise is full of hilarious jokes, quotes, and one-liners. Johnson’s character Frank particularly enjoys making puns!
Every character is hilarious! The actors credit the script and their chance to improvise. Comedian Jack Whitehall’s character is particularly funny.
Whitehall says, “There was a fair amount of improv. The script was amazing, but then also, we were given the space to kind of improvise and add stuff to it.”
He refers to Blunt and Johnson adding, “And these two created this environment where we were able to do that and it felt like such a safe space.”
Bringing The Jungle To Life
Jungle Cruise is a gorgeous movie to watch. With lush jungle life and tropical animals, audiences will want to sail the Amazon themselves!
Édgar Ramírez shares insight into making the jungle come to life. He says, “We shot in real locations and we dressed them to look like the Amazon. It’s incredible.”
He also mentions, “I come from an Amazonian country, and I saw the movie for the first time two days ago at the premiere,” and continues, “I loved it.”
Emily Blunt also remarks on how Jungle Cruise is a revitalization of the classic adventure genre.
“I just loved Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone, African Queen. Like, they are just joy bombs, and they’re nostalgic, and I think we just needed to pierce people’s hearts directly with the spirit of those films that we all loved as children.”

Exploring The Characters
Talking about a scene where McGregor comes out to Frank, both Johnson and Whitehall are very passionate. Johnsons says, “I felt that the scene was really exactly what it was, which was two men talking about what they loved and who they loved.”
Whitehall shares his thoughts saying, “I think it’s so great that we get to understand so much about each of these characters, and they all have reasons for being where they are, and, uh, you know, interesting and rich textured backstories.”
He also adds, “It makes you invested in them, and it makes you care about them.”
The film has lots of action and jokes, but also lots of heart. Emily Blunt shares that when she first asked the director, Jaume Collet-Serra, what Jungle Cruise was about he said, “It’s about love.”
