The Latest Scoop on Disney’s Aladdin Remake
Do Disney movies seem familiar lately? Disney dusted off the vault back in 2014 to give us live-action remakes. Maleficent (2014) brought us Sleeping Beauty. Cinderella (2015), The Jungle Book (2016) and Pete’s Dragon (2016) came right after. Beauty and the Beast (2017) marks the latest.
What can we expect to come next? You’ll remember I shared some of this scoop from D23Expo, make sure to check out my posts from the event. Rumor has it that we’re getting Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and Mary Poppins. For now, let’s talk Aladdin!
Aladdin began filming in London this week. We got a peek at the new cast!
Will Smith posted a selfie showing us the main cast. Mena Massoud is our Aladdin, Naomi Scott is Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari is Jafar. Genie will be played by Will Smith. Robin Williams left huge shoes to fill. We think Will is definitely up to the task.
Disney’s Aladdin remake is already under fire. Director Guy Richie added a few new characters, but one is really not going over well. Billy Magnussen, known for Disney’s Into The Woods, is Prince Anders. This new prince is meant to be a possible husband for Princess Jasmine.
This remake gives us a bestie for Jasmine. Nasim Pedrad is set to play Mara. Does that name sound familiar? She played Aly on New Girl. Mara also doubles as Jasmine’s handmaid.
There’s no date set for Disney’s Aladdin. However, if Disney keeps with their release pattern, they could definitely give us Prince Ali for Christmas next year.
