Layered hummus dip is great to make because let’s be real, who doesn’t love dip? Especially when it’s nutritious and Mediterranean style, now that’s a unique one

Using all store-bought products and no cooking required, this recipe will only need 15 minutes of your time. It is perfect for when you are on the clock preparing other dishes or simply want a heartier snack.

There are so many customizable combinations that can be made to this hummus. They include making the hummus from scratch, using all different types of toppings, and what it is served with. The point of making your layered hummus dip is to have fun with it!

A Healthy Option

Health and nutrition are not the first things on our minds when we are making food to entertain. Often people are quick to throw some deep-fried finger foods, chips, and anything covered in heavy cheese on the table.

With a chickpea base and a variety of vegetables on top, we are left feeling light and ready to eat more!

The most work required is chopping cucumbers…that should tell you how much of a breeze this is going to be. This layered hummus dip can be an appetizer, snack, dinner side dish, and if hummus as a dessert is your thing, then go for it! This recipe is universal and has many different uses.

Trust me, you will be making this again!

“LAYERED HUMMUS DIP” INGREDIENTS:

To create this delicious hummus dip you will need:

  • Hummus: Any brand of hummus will work, I recommend Sabra especially since they have endless varieties of flavors, but ultimately it is your preference of hummus.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt: The fat in the yogurt does not matter, once again it is your preference.
  • English cucumber: Having an English cucumber versus a regular one will give the dish more of a truly Mediterranean feel.
  • Roasted red peppers: These can be bought in jars or at the olive bar in your grocery store. You will want to cut these into chunks or slices.
  • Kalamata olives: These are greek olives, get pitted ones and slice them since they are pretty decent sized olives.
  • Red onion: An onion the size of your fist is an ideal size, you will need to dice the onion.
  • Olive oil: Going for Greek olive oil will enhance the Mediterranean flavor even more!
  • Parsley leaves: Buy a bunch of fresh parsley, pick off the leaves, and cut/rip the leaves into smaller pieces.
  • Salt: Use sea salt for the richest taste.
  • Black pepper: Whatever ground black pepper you have will work, it does not matter how fine or coarse it is,
  • Feta cheese: You will want to buy a container of crumbled feta cheese to easily sprinkle it over the hummus.
  • Toasted pine nuts: It may be hard to find already toasted pine nuts so you can buy regular pine nuts and pop them in the oven for 5 minutes.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR RECIPE:

1. Start with the hummus base. Scoop the hummus onto your serving dish and spread it evenly throughout.

2. Add the yogurt layer. Scoop the Greek yogurt on top of the hummus and carefully spread that over the hummus. Do not cover all of the hummus, make sure to leave a border.

3. Mix the toppings together. In a bowl, combine the cucumber, red peppers, olives, onion, olive oil, parsley, salt, and pepper.

4. Spread the toppings over the yogurt. Using a spoon, cover the yogurt with the mixture from the bowl.

5. Top it off with the remaining toppings. Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese and the toasted pine nuts evenly. Finish it with a light drizzle of olive oil over everything.

6. Serve and enjoy!

Serving Options

Need ideas on what to pair your layered hummus dip with? Try pita chips or pita bread. If you’re looking for a crunchier pairing I suggest crackers or carrots. And of course to keep things healthy try cucumbers or bell peppers.

No matter what you decide to pair your layered hummus dip with it is sure to taste great!
