Embracing the Journey of Life and Tips for Living in the Moment with Wente Vineyard

Life is made up of a number of different journeys. Some of them move us physically and catalyze a new business endeavor. Some are self-improvement journeys like going back to school or taking up meditation. Some of our journeys are those of relationships where with another human being we meet milestones and build a life together. Some journeys are hidden and others more apparent. Some are challenging while others might be easy and very rewarding. Whatever the journey may be, we all learn, grow and experience the lasting effects for the rest of our lives.

Today, the winery maintains its leadership role in California winegrowing under the ownership and management of the 4th and 5th generations of the Wente family, and is internationally recognized as a leader in wine country tourism, featuring wine tasting, education, fine dining, concerts and championship golf.

Wente Vineyards recently launched an initiative titled “For the Love of the Journey,” which serves as a way of sharing their story and what they believe in. The pioneering history, rich heritage and family legacy serves as the foundation of the brand today. But more importantly, it’s about the common thread that is weaved through from generation to generation. It’s the Love of the Journey.

Wente Vineyards has been growing and producing premium California wines and along the way have influenced California viticulture through contributions such as the Wente clone of Chardonnay. It’s now estimated that over 80% of California Chardonnays are derived from this Wente clone. But all of this is simply a result of their continued pursuit of quality and excellence, and is what’s celebrated with “Love of the Journey”. As they say, “We don’t make wine because we have to, we do it because we love to.”

We are all on our own unique journeys and today I want to inspire you to fully embrace that journey by living in the moment. It’s becoming more and more difficult to live in the present moment. This fast-paced world of ours has made us all over-worked, over-connected, and over-stimulated. Most of us totally zone out as we run from one task to the next (work, school, social obligations), or we bury our faces in our phones and never stop to smell the proverbial roses.

If this sounds like you then it’s time to slow down and really “be” in the present moment. Below are some tips on how to live in the moment.

Put the Phone Down
Have you ever gone to a concert and watched the entire thing through your phone’s screen? Stop! It’s unlikely you’ll ever watch that video again, so put your phone away and really soak in the concert.

This goes for many other occasions in life, too. Out to lunch with friends? Put the phone down. Walking to work? Put the phone down. The present moment is what happens when you aren’t staring at a screen.

Have Breakfast
Or lunch, or dinner. Whatever it is, make time in your day to sit down and enjoy a meal. The key is to make it a bit of a ceremony (i.e., don’t shovel cereal in your face while hovering over the kitchen sink.) Instead, sit down at a table with a cup of coffee and soak in this time for yourself.

Be Quiet
Take a few moments each day to be still and clear your mind. During this time you should put away your phone, get comfortable, and take a few deep breaths.

Silence can be excruciating at first since we are all so used to a constant influx of information, but stick with it and it’ll get easier. The more you do it, the more you’ll start to crave these moments of meditation and the more you’ll find yourself being present in other aspects of your life.
