Looking For Your HGTV Fix? Hulu Is The Answer!
As someone who uses streaming services rather than cable television, I have found a severe lack of HGTV in my life. While there are some great HGTV dupes, nothing quite beats my boys Drew and Jonathan Scott. Now, luckily Hulu has some of HGTV’s iconic shows.
Property Brothers
Property Brothers and Property Brothers: Buying and Selling
Hulu has seasons 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 of Property Brothers. Property Brothers: Buying and Selling also have seasons 3, 4, and 5 available on Hulu. For those who may nor known them, meet Drew and Jonathan Scott: The Property Brothers. A set of twin brothers who help families renovate and find their new home. Jonathan is a carpenter who does the physical work of remaking a home, while Drew is a real estate agent, who does the work of finding a new home for the family. They have been on HGTV since 2011 and are the HGTV’s real-life princes.
House Hunters
House Hunters, House Hunters International, House Hunters Renovation
Hulu has blessed us with not one, but three shows in the HGTV House Hunters universe. House Hunters follow families as they look at 3 potential houses and go through the pros and cons of each one, to ultimately make a decision on which will be their new home. The House Hunters mainly focus on houses in the United States, while House Hunters International focuses on houses from all over the world. While the first two shows primarily focus on houses that do not need a lot of work done, House Hunters Renovation focuses on fixer-uppers. No matter which shows in this HGTV series you chose, you will get addicted, and probably disagree with which house they should have gone with.
Fixer Upper
Fixer Upper and Fixer Upper: Behind the Design
Hulu has all 5 seasons of an HGTV staple show Fixer Upper. Fixer Upper follows Joanna and Chip Gaines (along with the occasional appearance of their kids.) Now, the show follows the Gaines as they run their business where they not only renovate but also redecorate, people’s homes. Fixer Upper focuses on not only the business, but the people behind the business and the impact renovation and redecoration have on a home. For anyone interested in the process of decorating a home, Fixer Upper: Behind the Design goes more in-depth on Joanna’s work.
Flip or Flop
If you loved the concept of House Hunters Renovation, but need a little more ~drama~ then HGTV’s Flip or Flop is right for you. The show follows Tarek and Christina as they flip homes. The catch is these homes tend to be foreclosures, sight-unseen, etc. What this means is that the homes typically have issues come up that are unexpected, which shifts plans, budgets, and schedules. This show watches more like reality television and is worth the watch. Seasons 5 and 6 are available to stream right now on Hulu.
Love it Or List it
Everyone’s favorite duo Hillary and David poses the question “Will they Love it or List it?” to each person on the show. Watching these two compete to either fix-up the person’s current home or find them a new and better one feels like watching an Olympic match each episode. Seasons 5, 6, and 7 of this iconic HGTV show are avaiable now on Hulu.
Flea Market Flip
Flea Market Flip follows teams as they find used pieces and refurbish them to compete to make a higher profit. I especially love this show because it is important now more than ever to find ways to be sustainable. By repurposing old pieces this show highlights how you can make old furniture new and chic over buying brand new pieces. Which is better for both the environment and allows for more customization. Seasons 10, 11, 12, 13 of this show are on Hulu currently.
Other various HGTV shows
Hulu has seasons 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 of Ghost Adventures for anyone looking for some spookiness. Good Bones has seasons 1 and 2 for anyone interested in the home’s being flipped by a mother-daughter duo. HGTV’s Extreme Homes has the 1 and 4th season available for a look into some unusual homes. Caribbean Life lets you watch what it is like to move to the Caribbean with seasons 5, 6, and 7 on Hulu. Lastly, the first seasons of Hidden Potential, Home Town, Container Homes, and Say Yes to the Nest are also all available on Hulu. If you have the “Live TV” add on you can also watch HGTV Dream Home 2020, HGTV Smart Home 2020, and Beachfront Bargain Hunt.
Thank you Hulu
In terms of Hulu, I have the basic plan that came with my Spotify subscription underneath a Student Membership. This makes Hulu incredibly affordable for me. HGTV is some of the most entertaining, and aesthetically pleasing television out there. For anyone else, especially people on a budget, I hope this fills your need for some HGTV.
