Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Review

On my recent trip to LA I had the chance to screen Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.  It was a great movie and honestly I loved it!! I think it is the perfect, go to summer movie.  I liked the cast and the fact that it had the Hawaii vibe just made it feel great for the summer season.

The movie stars, Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, Adam Devine, Aubrey Plaza, and Stephen Root.  It is based on two hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an online ad to find the perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves out-hustled by the uncontrollable duo.

I thought it was was hilarious, but not over the top with crude jokes.  I kept laughing out loud, which I think is how you really know a movie is actually funny.  It was just the right amount of humor to make you laugh without over doing it.  Also, for all of my ladies out there these females steal the show with their comedic relief.  There are so many times in movies that we see funny men or associate the jokes coming from the male characters.  That is simply not the case in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.  While the movie is based on Mike and Dave, their dates certainly steal the show.  I loved how hilarious Kendrick and Plaza were and their characters were more than just  your typical female love role, they have a name for themselves and leaving you wanting to know more about them!

I think people will enjoy not only the humor, but the lessons of the movie. It mixed family relationships, friendships and even lessons about finding yourself and pursuing your passions in life.  It’s a comedic movie with a little bit of love and life lessons so it pretty much fits all of the things I look for in a movie.

My favorite characters were probably Alice and Dave.  I like the comedic relief the others brought, but enjoyed the lessons from Alice and Dave.

I think the character that really stood out to me was Alice.  She was so upset that her fiancée had left her and I think so many young women feel the pressure to find someone and get married in their 20s before they even figure out who they are and what they want.  So even though she was so upset about it, I think getting out of her comfort zone and going on the trip helped her realize you have to put yourself first and find who you and what you want and not depend your happiness on someone else.  By the end of the movie we saw a more confident and independent woman who just might have found love with someone new. 😉

I also loved Dave, because hello Zac Efron ;), but also in the end he decides to pursue a new career ( I won’t give away the details, but it’s not a typical 9-5).  Millennials are pursuing more and more careers that aren’t necessarily by the book so I liked that addition.

MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES

Overall, I think it was a great movie for all young and old adults.  I not only found it funny, but thought I could even see my parents laughing at it.  The way the family argued and the dad’s relationship with his sons was realistic and I think a lot of today’s families will appreciate that.  Plus, their protective feelings for their sister was adorable.

It’s a feel good summer movie that will make you laugh and remember to take chances, live in the moment and enjoy life!
