Movie Preview: The Light Between Oceans
Dreamworks in collaboration with Walt Disney releases The Light Between Oceans in theaters on September 2nd. As part of the movie preview, here is what you need to know before you go see the movie.

Setting
The movie is set in Post World War I in Australia. The filming took place in both New Zealand and Australia including locations in the Marlboroughs, Dunedin and Otago Peninsulas, and Tasmania.

Starring
Lead husband and wife roles are portrayed by Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, respectively. German-Irish actor Fassbender’s first role included was a part in HBO’s miniseries Band of Brothers, but in the last 15 years, his stardom has exploded with roles in such films as 12 Years a Slave, X-Men, and Steve Jobs. Similarly Swedish actress Vikander’s rose to fame during her appearances in several seasons of Andra Avenyn, a popular show in Scandinavia. Since then she has starred in hits like Anna Karenina and The Danish Girl. The film is further supported by the versatile big screen and stage actress Rachel Weisz and seasoned actor Bryan Brown who’s career spans over 40 years with roles in over 60 films.

Plot
The movie is based on the novel by the same name written by M.L. Stedman. After fours years of fighting in World War I with the Allies, Tom returns to Australia and secures a job as a lighthouse keeper. He brings with him his beautiful, Isabel, both ready to start a family. But, sadness and grief plague them as Isabel experiences two miscarriages and stillbirth. With so much sorrow and heartache in their lives, one day they encounter a glimpse of joy and possible hope when a boat washes up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby. Isabel views this as a sign of hope and luck and wants the couple to keep the baby while Tom feels a need to report their findings to the authorities.
