Actress Naya Rivera, most known for her role on Glee is presumed dead. On Wednesday, July 8th she and her 4-year old son went boating on Lake Piru, her son was later found on the boat alone. Venture County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the case. As of Thursday, July 9th they have turned the search party for Rivera into a recovery mission. The Sheriff department has also released the 911 dispatch recording from the call. As well as the security camera footage of Rivera and her son leaving from the dock on the boat.
Rivera played the role of Santana on the hit television show Glee. Santana was a fan-favorite and most known for her quick-witted comebacks, strong voice, and her relationship with the character of Brittany on the show. A video of Rivera singing “If I die young”, which she sang after the death of her fellow Glee star, Cory Monteith, has been circulating in light of recent events. In addition to Glee, she has starred in a plethora of other movies and television shows and is an author. Her most recent role was Colette Jones on Step Up: High Water.
Sergeant Donoghue gave a statement to the media on July 9th. It is here where we heard that there was one life jacket on board and her son was wearing a life jacket. We also learned that the son had talked to the police and gave a statement. Where the boat was found was roughly 30-feet deep with some visibility, but not a majority amount. The family is in contact with the department.
Rivera was 33 years at the time of her presumed death. There are still investigations underway and no body has been found yet. No matter what our thoughts are with the actress, her son, and the family during this difficult time.
