If you were a fan of the original Paddington movie or have read the books, then you will love Paddington 2. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the second film and it really put a smile on my face. The story follows the lovable bear, Paddington (Ben Whishaw) as he enjoys life with his human family. As his Aunt Lucy’s (Imelda Staunton) birthday quickly approaches, Paddington decides to get a job cleaning windows in order to earn enough money to buy her a pop up book about London. Since it’s always been Lucy’s dream to visit London, Paddington thinks that this will be the perfect gift for her. When the book is mysteriously stolen, Paddington is wrongfully convicted and goes to jail. Paddington’s family must prove his innocence, and Paddington must learn to make the best of his time in jail and meet as many new friends as he can.
In addition to the amazing story, Paddington 2 features many different life lessons. One of my personal favorite quotes of the film was “If we are kind and polite then the world will be right,” said by both Paddington and his Aunt Lucy. This quote had such a big impact on me while I was watching the movie because kindness is an admirable trait that we all need now more than ever. Paddington always treats people with kindness no matter how they might treat him.
Not only does kindness play a huge role in the film, but the importance of friendship is another lesson that the movie touches on quite a bit. Paddington doesn’t have a single enemy in his entire city because he’s always helping people out whenever he can. Even in jail Paddington manages to make dozens of friends that he might not have met otherwise. It’s important to have people that will always be there for you if you need a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to binge-watch Netflix with.
Paddington 2 will warm your heart with its charming and whimsical story, and it’s a must-see movie for this year. Be the first to see Paddington 2 in theaters today!
