6 DIY Beauty Tips You Need To Try Now
Summer’s official arrival isn’t until June 21st, but for most of us summer has already kicked off. This means that we are or will be splurging on all things summer: new wardrobes, vacations, concert tickets and more! I scoped through Pinterest to bring you the best cost-effective and unconventional DIY summer beauty tips to guarantee you look your best all summer long! Although most of these tips are geared towards summer, they’re useful to know all year long.
1) For a smoother shave
Substitute baby oil for shaving cream. Not only is baby oil cheaper than most shaving creams, it increases the life of the razor, gives you a closer shave and prevents razor/bikini bumps. You’ll be bathing suit ready in no time!
2) DIY Homemade primer
Summer heat and makeup aren’t exactly the best of friends. You may not have the extra money to spend on a primer, but I found a cheap alternative for you to try! It involves one of summer’s most popular go to products: aloe vera! Chances are since the arrival of warmer weather, you already have a stock supply of aloe vera lying around your house, so sacrificing some for this lifesaver primer won’t be a problem. What you need: 2 tbsp aloe vera gel(natural, not green to avoid coloring your primer), 2 tbsp of face lotion and a dollop of liquid foundation. Mix it together until it’s completely blended and store in an air tight container. Remake it every 2-3 weeks to ensure freshness.
3) DIY Broken Makeup Repair
Broken makeup is no fun. All that is in the past now that I’ve discovered this DIY trick that restores your cover up to perfect condition. One simple ingredient puts the pieces back together, literally! This can be used for any powder based makeup. All you need is a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Pour a few teaspoons (1-3) of rubbing alcohol in your makeup compact and stir up all the broken pieces until all the makeup is dissolved. Let it set out overnight and by morning your makeup will be good as new.
4) Blemish free soft skin
My friend told me about this acne concoction that she saw on Pinterest. The best thing about it? It involves at home ingredients. All it calls for is honey and cinnamon. It may sound and look weird, but it has a pleasant smell and it really works. It isn’t harsh on your skin like other acne treatment. Mix three tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon of pure cinnamon and apply to face. Leave it on for 30 minutes or overnight for blemish-free soft skin!
5) Revitalize your scalp
Beer hair rinse: In the summer we use a lot of products to make our hair corporate the way we want it to. This can result in hair buildup which causes our hair to look greasy. Beer is an amazing clarifying treatment that rinses out the old buildup of products leaving your hair and scalp amazingly clean. Any brand of beer will work, just make sure it’s unrefrigerated. Saturate your hair, leave it for 5 minutes then rinse! Also, if you’d rather not use beer, apple cider vinegar is a nice alternative. You can spritz it on your hair using a spray bottle, massage it into your hair and leave for 5 minutes before rinsing! Try out either of these methods to get your locks back to looking luscious in no time. Your hair will thank you for it!
6) Beneficial Fruit
You can make a DIY acne clearing face mask with a banana! Mix 1 teaspoon of watermelon juice, with 1 teaspoon of mashed banana and apply to your face for 10-15 minutes before washing. It’s also an alleviation for sunburn. Soak cotton balls with fresh watermelon juice, apply it to sunburned areas and let the juice sink into your skin for 15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water. Also, third technique is one that is tempting to eat. It’s a watermelon and yogurt face mask. This mask is said to hydrate your skin by moisturizing dry or tired skin. Mix 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt and 1 teaspoon of watermelon juice. Apply to face and neck, leave for 10 minutes and rinse. So, the next time you have watermelon, remember to make use of all the benefits it has for you in the beauty world.
