The Best and Worst Dressed at the 2013 Academy Awards
The Academy Awards are held to bring together the best of the movie industry from the screen stars to directors to costume designers and composers. However, a lot of the focus of this event goes to the fashion. Everyone loves to see what their favorite stars are wearing and we at Sarah Scoop are no different! Here is a list of our favorite Oscar looks, our least favorite and the stars that could have done better. Be sure to let us know what your favorite Oscar dresses were in the comment box below!
Our favorite Oscar looks…
Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta – Amy Adams looks like a storybook princess in this Oscar de la Renta gown. The color is beautiful and there is really nothing negative that we can say about it. Perfection!
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture – The young Hollywood star who won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook looked like Old Hollywood royalty in her beautiful Dior Gown. Even though she fell up the stairs while receiving her award, we still think she did it with style and grace. Jennifer looked beautiful and timeless, just as a Hollywood star should!
Catherine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murad – The stunning Welsh actress looks amazing in her gold Zuhair Murad gown. She looks happy, healthy and glowing. We love her natural makeup and the detail on the gown. Beautiful!
Jennifer Garner in custom Gucci – She may have been playing a proud wife to her dashing husband, Ben Affleck who’s movie Argo won Best Picture after he controversially got snubbed in the Best Director category, but Jennifer has never looked better. The beautiful mother-of-three was glowing and looked absolutely beautiful in her purple Gucci creation.
Jessica Chastain in custom Giorgio Armani – The Best Actress nominee looked like a million bucks in her Armani dress. We love the gold color against her pale skin and the pop of red on her lips was what gave her an extra glow!
Naomi Watts in custom Giorgio Armani – The beautiful Australian actress looked extremely different to the other stars with her modern sparkling Armani gown but she looked equally beautiful. We love the way the dress hugs her body and the cut out detail at the top is stunning!
Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton – The Oscar winning actress could do no wrong in this beautiful blue Louis Vuitton dress. It was eye-catching, flattering and simple. Reese looked absolutely beautiful and extremely classy!
Our least favorite Oscar looks…
Halle Berry in Versace – Halle Berry is known for her beauty and style but we were just not loving this striped Versace creation. It seemed heavy and lackluster in comparison with the other gowns and did not seem like the right gown for the occasion. Sorry Halle!
Brandi Glanville in BrandB – We have no clue how Brandi got invited to the Oscars but regardless, her dress was terrible. It was from her own line and we understand why she wanted exposure… just not that much exposure! Her dress was completely inappropriate for the event. There was far too much cleavage! There was also a high slit – always do one or the other, never both!
Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra – We love Reem Acra but this dress looked like a hot mess! Kristen needed to have tidier hair. The messy hair works most of the time, but definitely not for the Oscars. The dress was a little long too and looked like it was dragging across the floor as opposed to gliding across the floor. It was a shame about her lackluster presenting with Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe too. Maybe she’ll do better next time…
Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood Couture – It is Helena Bonham Carter so, naturally, we wouldn’t expect much less than crazy attire from Tim Burton’s wife but this Vivienne Westwood creation is terrible. The messy hair and the seemingly unstructured gown are a big no-no!
Kelly Rowland in Donna Karan Atelier – Kelly is beautiful woman but we were a little confused as to why the Destiny’s Child star was there and we were also confused about her gown. It was too risqué for the Oscars. It was a nice gown but with the high split and the fact that it was strapless, it was a little too much for the event.
Melissa McCarthy in David Meister Signature – We love Melissa! She is hilarious! But this gown was so unflattering! The sleeves were far too long as you can see them banding around her elbows and the draping was all wrong. It was not a very streamlined look and it was not the right fit, unfortunately…
We love them but they could have done better…
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Haute Couture – Sandra looks gorgeous and she is so loveable but we wanted to see something different. Her Elie Saab dress is the same silhouette she chose for the 2012 Oscars and the 2010 Oscars. She looks great but we’d love to see something new next time like the gorgeous red strapless red dress she wore last year!
Jennifer Aniston in Valentino Haute Couture – Jennifer is the friend we all love but she regularly wears the same type of dress, same sandals and she keeps to the same simple hairstyle. We wanted to see something glamorous and different. There’s no doubt she looks fantastic but we want more, Jennifer!

I have to say, my fav was totally Nicole Kidman. I feel like she just embodied that classical Oscar beauty.
