The Best Sunburn Relief Tips
Every summer, I am bound to get badly burned because I won’t apply enough sunscreen by accident. I know that I’m not the only one who struggles with this, especially if you have very fair skin like me! The sunburn relief tips that I will be giving you the scoop on are easy and will heal your skin in no time. Many of these tips were told to me by my local dermatologist and the best part is, they won’t break the bank! Keep on reading to find out how you can treat a bad sunburn in a few days.
1. Cold Shower
A cold shower will not only make you feel refreshed, but it helps A LOT with sunburn too! The difference in taking cold and hot showers are that a hot shower can strip and dry out your skin. When taking a cold shower instead, it gives you relief and helps reduce swelling! If you got bad sunburn, try to take at least 2 cold showers a day to help with the pain.
2. Aloe Vera
This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s one of the most effective ways to get rid of bad sunburn! You can apply aloe on your skin by a tube, gel, or even straight from the plant! This product gives you a soothing feeling as well, which makes you feel relaxed and refreshed. However, aloe vera can have a sticky substance that can be a nuisance for some people. My dermatologist advised applying aloe vera gel on sunburn at night after you’ve taken a shower so you won’t be irritated by it during the day! This has worked wonders for my sunburn and skin in general. I’ve used aloe vera on my face when I get some flare-ups and it helps with acne scars too. This product is an obvious win-win! You can buy aloe vera gel at Walmart for $4.97.
3. Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen is known and used by people whenever they feel aches and pains. It’s an anti-inflammatory drug that can treat mild to severe pain. I’ve taken Ibuprofen not only for when my sunburn is throbbing, but also when it’s itchy! It’s been known that Ibuprofen can help take away the itchiness of sunburn. I can attest to this because I was at the beach a week ago and this happened to me! I only need to take one dose of Ibuprofen and in less than a half-hour, the pain and itchiness went away. Ibuprofen can be found here for $3.88.
4. Zinc
I never knew about this until a week ago, when my sunburn left me huge blisters that I was afraid were going to leave scars on my face. When going to my local Walmart, I found a paste-like form of zinc to apply to my face. I made sure to wash my face with cold water and pat dry. When I was done washing my face, I dabbed and rubbed some zinc onto my affected areas. This product worked wonders for my blisters and they healed in 2 days! Zinc can be found in many sunscreens which is even better for daily use. This product can be bought here for $10.97.
5. Aquaphor
I can thank my dermatologist for this one because it’s been a staple in not only treating my sunburn but has been added to my skincare routine as well! Aquaphor is another great product for when you get bad blisters from the sun. This product can be found in huge pots, squeeze tubes, and even lip therapy balms! You can purchase Aquaphor here for $6.96.
6. Drinking-Water
The easiest tip of them all and that is – drink plenty of water! When being out in the sun all day, it dries and strips your skin the most. You need to hydrate not only your skin but your entire body as well. By drinking water, it helps replenish lost fluids and help your sunburns heal more quickly.
