Meet Kam Williams from MTV’s Are You The One? (AYTO). A fiery, independent girl from New Jersey who loves hard! From running track & field to working as a flight attendant, Kam has always been on the go! The one time she did stay put was to find love on AYTO. Check out our Q&A together below to get to know Kam and hear all of her advice on finding your perfect match!
Where did you grow up?
Pennsauken, NJ.
What was your childhood like?
I loved my childhood. Before moving to Pennsauken, NJ, when I was 7 years old, I lived in St. Catherine, Jamaica. It was a very different experience culturally. Looking back, I just loved going to the beach, playing games with my friends, and participating in sports at my prep school.
What were you involved in growing up?
I was involved in track and field. I loved running because I felt independent, and growing up as kids we would race one another.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be traveling to Orlando, Florida the summer of the 5th grade. I got to go to Universal Studios, and it was so fun going on all the rides with my brother and father.
What did you do after high school?
After high school I went to college. I was bored and wanted to spice up my life so I became a flight attendant. One of the best jobs I’ve ever had in my life!
Let’s talk a little bit about AYTO. What inspired you to go on the show?
I remember watching Season 1 and thinking, “I can do that. I can find my match and win the money.” I really wanted love and money the moment I applied.
Did you go in with a strategy to find your match?
My strategy was to play with my heart and give every guy an equal chance. I was one of the few people on my season whose heart lead me to my match.
Did you go into the house thinking you knew exactly who your match was?
I knew my match was mine since the first day I laid eyes on him.. However, I still played the game and got to know every guy in the house. I could not be 100% sure until I saw the words ”Perfect Match” on the screen.
How did you mentally and physically prepare?
Mentally preparing for the show, I laid out all my flaws on the table and was just very honest with myself as far as what I needed to work on internally and other aspects. I had to focus on finding a man who can help me in my weaker areas. I knew my strengths and knew my match would be a guy who would benefit the most from that.
What would you say was the hardest part of the show for you?
The hardest part of the show was being the first to go to the honeymoon suite. I wish I was able to help the house with the strategy.
I see that you are still very close to many of AYTO alum. What would you say was the best friendship the show gave you?
The best friendship the show gave me was Tyranny. She stands up for what’s right and shows me nothing but loyalty.
Were you surprised at your match?
I was not surprised Edward was my match. The truth booth confirmed what we both already knew.
What’s your favorite memory from the show?
My favorite memory was finding my perfect match. I came for love, and in that moment I thought I was leaving with love.
Favorite funny moment from the show?
My favorite moment is when we would throw our house parties known as extravaganzas.
Once the show was over, what were you most excited to get back to?
Once the show was over, I was ready to go home because mentally I have been through alot and it was pretty draining. I needed a piece of mind and going home would give me that.
What advice would you give to yourself now before going on AYTO?
I would tell myself to listen to my intuition. It was right all along. Don’t play dumb.
What is your go-to everyday beauty product?
Definitely ABH Dip Brow and Eyebrow Gel. My eyebrows must be on fleek! lol
What is your staple fashion item for any look?
High waisted anything! lol
What is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would be fun socks! I have no idea why I’ve always had a sock obsession. Fun colors, styles, and textures. I love them all!
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
“When people show you who they are believe them.” This means so much to me because I always give people chances hoping to see a better side of them, however they already showed me who they were. I should’ve just believed them.
What’s a quote you live by everyday?
“Keep your head up.” No matter how bad things get, they’ll will always get better.
