“The Umbrella Academy” – Season 2 Trailer Breakdown

It’s almost here! Season 2 of “The Umbrella Academy” will be released on Netflix on July 31, and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ll finally get to see what happened to the 7 siblings in the aftermath of the apocalypse. Where did they go? What will happen to everyone? Is it going to be just as fun as the first season? Check out what we think will happen in season 2! Watch the trailer here.

The Setting

The trailer begins with Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) calling out to his siblings in what seems like a ruined 60s-ish town. This could suggest that the siblings where all separated when Number Five took them away from the 2019 apocalypse. However, the next scene in the trailer shows all the Hargreeves children looking upon the ruin in their new setting, then an explosion taking over the scene.

After the Netflix title card, it’s confirmed that “The Umbrella Academy” season 2 will take place in 1963, just a few days after JFK’s assassination. But who confirms this? Hazel (Cameron Britton) is confirmed for season 2! This seems to be the only time we see him in the trailer though. Though the group could have traveled back in time before his assassination too, as they are seen talking about it as a future event.

The Characters

Five exclaims that he needs to find his family, so my guess is that the first episode will follow where the different siblings have ended up. The next scene confirms that Klaus (Robert Sheehan) has been busy in the time he’s been separated from his family – by starting a cult. Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) seems to have a new love interest and a story that focuses on race. Luther (Tom Hopper) finds a new hobby in fighting and showing off his muscles.

Diego (David Castañeda) also looks to have a new love interest and dons messy hair and white clothes – he seems to be in an institution of sorts. Vanya (Ellen Page) also gets a new love interest and is a bit calmer than how she left season 1. But don’t worry, Ben (Justin H. Min) makes his appearance too and has more screen time in this trailer than he did in all of season 1.

There’s hope in “The Umbrella Academy” season two as dynamics between characters, old and new, will change for better or for worse. Oh yeah, we also get to see Pogo (Adam Godley), for a bit and SPOILER: Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) meet his future children.

The Story: Skip for Big Spoilers

And now for the big question: what will season 2 even be about? Well, the 2019 apocalypse has followed the group to sixties and once again, they have to stop it. Diego comes to the conclusion that “everything in [their] new lives is connected to the plot to assassinate the president.”

One notable character is Carmicheal, a sentient goldfish and a group of people who look like vacuum salesmen (but they’re most definitely not). SPOILERS: Those who read the comic know that Carmicheal is there to stop Number Five from stopping the assassination of JFK, so there we have our basic plot. Siblings come together to stop JFK’s assassination and maybe stop the apocalypse along the way?

To those who haven’t read the comics, you have a big storm coming. And if you have read them, hopefully this season is everything you wanted and more.

“The Umbrella Academy” season 2 will, without a doubt bring back the action, the humor, and the soundtrack we love. It looks just as exciting and fun as the first. Mark your calendar for July 31 at midnight. You do not want to wait around for this!
