Castiel from Supernatural is an angel, but he cares for humanity. However, his love for humans and the Winchesters is more of a strength than a weakness. Here are our picks for the top ten heartfelt Castiel quotes. Warning, there will be spoilers ahead!
1. I love all of you
“Thank you. Knowing you, it… it’s been the best part of my life. And the things that… the things we’ve shared together, they have changed me. You’re my family. I love you. I love all of you.”
Castiel gets stabbed by the Prince of Hell. Thinking that he only has a few more minutes left to live, he tells the Winchester’s how much he loves them. He also wants them to run, so his last act will be protecting them. However, Sam and Dean refuse to leave his side. We’re glad Castiel survived but liked this heartfelt goodbye.
2. Choosing freedom
“You don’t have to be ruled by fate. You can choose freedom, and I still believe that that’s something worth fighting for.”
Balthazar changes history, making sure the Titanic didn’t sink. But Fate herself isn’t happy about this. Castiel ends up saving them from Fate and restores the timeline. Cas assures the brothers in this quote that he’s fighting for freedom over destiny.
3. We are
“You asked, ‘what about this is real?’ We are.”
Dean’s outraged that Chuck wrote the whole course of their lives. He no longer knows what’s real and what’s not. Castiel believes that what Chuck wrote doesn’t matter. What matters is that the people they saved and “Team Free Will” are real. We couldn’t agree more.
4. You got to know them
“The point is that they were here at all, and you got to know them. And when they’re gone, it will hurt. But that hurt will remind you how much you loved them.”
Jack can’t stand the thought of losing someone he loves. Castiel teaches him to accept this, as humans only live for a small span of time. While this will cause Jack pain, Castiel tells him to apreciate the time they have with those they care about.
5. Doing their best
“Now I realize that there is no righteous path, it’s just people trying to do their best in a world where it is far too easy to do your worst.”
Claire and Cas reunite in season ten. Because Cas used Clarie’s father as a vessel, it didn’t leave them on the best of terms. However, Castiel truly cares for Claire. She ends up forgiving him and is surprised at how much he’s changed. Castiel has grown so much since his dramatic debut in season four, so of course, we forgive him as well!
6. You mean too much to me
“You know, this world, this sad, doomed little world, it needs you. It needs every last Winchester it can get, and I will not let you die. I won’t let any of you die. And I won’t let you sacrifice yourselves. You mean too much to me, to everything.”
Billie says a Winchester must die to restore balance to the universe. As Dean, Sam, and Mary argue, Castiel takes matters into his own hands by killing Billie. Cas tells them that they mean too much to the world and him to die. This quote pulls at the heartstrings and shows how much Castiel loves the Winchesters.
7. Art. Hope. Love. Dreams.
“Well, perhaps I’ve been down here with them for too long. There’s seemingly nothing but chaos. But not all bad comes from it. Art. Hope. Love. Dreams.”
Castiel talks to his fellow angel Hannah about whether or not there should be rules or if people should be left alone. Hannah argues that without rules, there’s chaos. But Cas sees the good that can come from chaos. We’re glad Castiel has come to appreciate humanity.
8. Watching over you
“I’ll watch over you.”
Castiel tries to be a hunter in season eight, which leads him to bunk with Sam and Dean in a hotel room. Dean jokes about it being like a slumber party. Castiel says he doesn’t sleep, but he’ll watch over Dean as he does. This line is hilarious but sweet. Castiel’s like the angel on their shoulders, always looking out for them.
9. Looking for purpose
“Yes, there’s more to humanity than survival. You… look for purpose, and you must not be defeated by anger or despair.”
For a while, Castiel becomes human. He begins to experience many of the things. This is a learning experience for him, as he sees that there’s more to life than just surviving it. Now that he’s not an angel, he finds another purpose and doesn’t let himself get discouraged by his tribulations.
“Dean, if there’s a spark, a hope, then I have to try. You taught me that.”
Dean plans to bury himself in a box so Michael can never use him as a vessel. Castiel strongly objects to this idea, looking for another way that doesn’t involve Dean’s death. Even though Dean doesn’t believe there is, Castiel tells him that there’s always hope. So, we as the audience believe there’s hope too.
