2. “This is the song you sing when you’re in the dungeon.” Eleanor

It’s no secret that Eleanor is not from Boston. Her home in The Motherland is a mystical place, very different from the human world that we know. 3. “My hearts desire now would be a clean house and maybe the eyebrows that I had before I started stress-plucking.” -Mackenzie

This line is a very accurate depiction of Mackenzie when we first meet her. She is no-nonsense and does not believe in magic, so her hearts desire is very practical. Also, anyone who has over-plucked their eyebrows will be able to relate to this. When it comes to eyebrows, we could all use a fairy godmother!

4. “I got hit in the face with a snowball and we sounded kind of terrible, but I didn’t barf!” -Jane

5. “I can’t believe we’re discussing the work ethic of a raccoon.” -Mackenzie

This line is a pivotal moment for Mackenzie. Eleanor brings woodland creatures to help clean Mackenzie’s house, so when Mackenzie begins talking about the raccoons work ethic, it proves that she is starting to believe in magic!

6. “After all, nine out of ten fairy tales begin with ‘Once upon a time something amazing happened while she was drinking wine in her sweatpants.'” -Eleanor

7. ‘Instead of telling people what true love is supposed to look like, maybe we should let them tell us.” -Eleanor

In one of Eleanor’s bravest moments, she stands up to her headmistress, Moira. Eleanor is defending not only her own methods as a fairy godmother, but also the actions of Mackenzie and her family. Also, she is giving hope to a new age of fairy godmothers who can help to create different types of happily ever afters.

8. “Maybe it’s time to rewrite the book.” -Moira

Moira teaches the same rules to all of her students, but when Eleanor shows her that not all “happily ever afters” look the same, she sees the error in her ways. Moira is willing to rewrite her beloved rule book to better suit the needs of fairy godmothers.

9. “Sometimes love just means shoveling someone’s driveway.” -Hugh

In a callback to a moment earlier in the movie, where Mackenzie mentions that sometimes it’s nice having someone you love around to shovel the driveway, Hugh hints at his affection for her. Also, he is showing everyone that love means different things to different people. Love comes in all different forms and each one is as beautiful as the next.

10. “Eleanor didn’t magically fix my life. She showed me how to fix it myself.” -Mackenzie

This sweet line shoes Mackenzie realizing that while she may have had magical help, the real magic is something that she made herself. Eleanor gave her the confidence and bit of magic to change her life around for the better.

About Disney’s Godmothered

Beginning with an overview of the film, Jillian Bell explains that her character, Eleanor, wants to prove that fairy godmothers are important. Bell also teases that Mackenzie, portrayed by Isla Fisher, “doesn’t really believe that she needs a fairy godmother. But maybe she does.”

Set at Christmas time, “Godmothered” is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell) who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers.

Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston.

Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
