Top 5 Reasons to Be Excited for “Kubo and the Two Strings”
I think one of the best things that have happened in the past ten years is that animated movies have not only been aimed to entertain just children anymore. Now, adults are being included in on the fun too! LAIKA Entertainment is one of the greatest studios at doing this. This is the studio that has brought us Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls! Their newest film, Kubo and the Two Strings, is sure to be just as great! Here are my top five reasons as to why we should all be excited for this awesome new film!
The All Star Cast
You know a film is going to be fantastic when the voice over actors are some of the best in the business! Kubo and the Two Strings stars Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, and George Takei. The main part of Kubo is portrayed by Art Parkinson, also known as Rickon Stark from Game of Thrones. These are pros in the business, some having even been nominated for Academy Awards. Charlize Theron even won one in 2004! These actors sure know what they are doing!
The Animation
LAIKA Entertainment is known for stop-motion. With every new film they do, the animation only gets better. Kubo and the Two Strings could easily be seen as a film done on computers. That’s how ridiculously good they did stop-motion for this film! I cannot even imagine how long of hours it took to complete it, even with all the access to great engineering and technology these days. The effort can easily be seen because once you watch the trailer, you will be stunned! I have never seen such flawless stop-motion.
The Director
Travis Knight is actually the president and CEO of LAIKA, as well as the son of the legendary founder of Nike. Yes, I’m talking about that Nike. I guess he wanted to get a bit more creative because he is making his directorial debut with Kubo and the Two Strings! As someone who has the final say on all stop-motion films with his company, you know he’s not going to produce anything less than amazing when it comes to his first film as a director!
The Complex Storyline
So much happens when watching the trailer of Kubo and the Two Strings that you just aren’t sure what to expect when you finally see the movie. But, that’s a great thing! This movie is going to have a real story line, not just some fluff that animated movies can have sometimes. What you can expect is a story of magic and adventure! As Kubo goes on his quest, he discovers so many new and crazy things! The storyline looks beautifully fantastic, as do most LAIKA’s films.
The Beautiful Backdrop
The film is set in the backdrop of Asia, but there are so many changes that happen! There is everything from the ocean to snow. The filmmakers were able to focus on everything, not just the characters. That’s a difficult thing to accomplish when it comes to stop-motion filmmaking! The backdrop of the film seems to be a major aspect because the story couldn’t be told without showing the audience the whole picture. Expect to see beautiful aspects throughout the film as you watch it!
