The Top 7 Harry Potter Deaths We’re Still Not Over, Ranked
Hermione may think getting expelled is worse than death, but we strongly disagree. Many of our favorite characters in the “Harry Potter” series didn’t make it to the end unscathed. Unfortunately, some even lost their lives. (Spoiler alert!)
Here are the top seven Harry Potter deaths we’re still not over:
7. Albus Dumbledore
Snape and Dumbledore planned his death, which softens the blow a little. However, we’re still sad our favorite mentor had to die. We get choked up at the scene where they all raise their wands to the sky in memory of Dumbledore every time. At least we see a glimpse of him in the afterlife in the last movie!
6. Hedwig
In “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” Hedwig’s death signals the end of Harry’s childhood. Hedwig didn’t just deliver Harry packages; she was also his friend. She was so loyal that she dived in front of the Killing Curse to protect Harry. We all can relate to grieving over a beloved pet like Hedwig.
5. Sirius Black
Harry Potter feels like he has the family he’s always wanted when he reunites with his godfather, Sirius. Unfortunately, Sirius later dies right in front of Harry’s eyes. As we watch him drift through the veil while Harry cries, we can’t help but tear up ourselves.
4. Remus Lupin (+ Nymphadora Tonks)
In our opinion, Lupin was the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. The chocolate-loving marauder ends up falling in love with Tonks, another member of the Order of the Pheonix. They eventually have a son named Teddy. We were heartbroken when they both died, making their child an orphan. It eerily echos Harry’s childhood, which makes it fitting that Harry becomes Teddy’s godfather.
3. Fred Weasley
While Fred dies with a grin on his face in the novel, we found it hard to smile when he was killed during The Battle of Hogwarts. Seeing the Weasley family grieve over his body in the movie was horrible. What’s even worse is that his twin brother George, who he was so close with, has to live without his partner in crime for the rest of his life.
2. Cedric Diggory
Cedric was hard-working, fair-minded, and a fierce friend. His killing was a turning point in the Harry Potter series, as the story became far heavier after that. Seeing Cedric’s father sob when Harry brings his body back is also so heartbreaking to watch. We’re still crying over his death and wish that this Hufflepuff had survived.
1. Dobby
When Harry frees Dobby, the house elf is forever loyal to him. In the books, Dobby and Harry continue their friendship over the years while Dobby works in the Hogwarts kitchens. In the final book, Dobby shows up to save Harry and his friends at Malfoy Manor, but ends up being killed by Bellatrix. His last line makes the scene even more emotional: “Dobby is happy to be with his friend, Harry Potter.” Why did Dobby have to die? Seriously, we’re still not over it!
Are you still crying over these character deaths from Harry Potter? If so, we’re virtually passing you some tissues.
