Top Five Funniest New Girl Episodes
First thing’s first: each and every single episode of New Girl is hilarious. Like, laugh until it hurts hilarious. If you haven’t seen New Girl, you definitely have to watch it. No excuses! Check out these five reasons why you should watch it right now. It’s funny, has adorably quirky characters, great inside jokes, did I mention that it’s absolutely HILARIOUS.
With that said, some episodes of New Girl make me laugh so much. Here’s my pick of the top 5 funniest episodes of New Girl!
“Pilot” (Season 1, Episode 1)
Pilot episodes usually aren’t up to the caliber of the rest of the series, at least in my opinion. However, I think the New Girl pilot is so incredibly funny and sets up the rest of the show beautifully. It’s so entertaining to see the relationships between the three guys, Schmidt, Nick, and Coach. I laugh every single time I watch this episode. Every. Single. Time. Seriously, one of the funniest episodes.
“Pepperwood” (Season 2, Episode 14)
By season 2, most of the characters and relationships of the show have been established. So it makes sense that none of us are surprised when Nick takes something pretty mundane and twists it into something crazy. Jess teaches a creative writing class and is super excited when she has a breakthrough with one of her students. She shows her student’s writing piece to her roommates and Nick believes the writer is dangerous and planning to kill her. Unsurprisingly, Nick goes “undercover” as Julius Pepperwood to investigate the student. As with everything Nick does, it’s absolutely hilarious.
“Dance” (Season 3, Episode 22)
Another funny New Girl episode is “Dance!” In this episode, Jess is in charge of planning and running a middle-school dance. She recruits her roommates and friends to chaperone the dance after all her coworkers all make excuses to avoid chaperoning. Whenever you put the 6 main characters (Jess, Cece, Schmidt, Nick, Winston, and Coach) together, expect lots of chaos. Add in a bunch of middle schoolers to the equation and you get an absolutely hilarious and chaotic episode. Each of the characters find themselves in awkward, funny situations that are in no way responsible. It makes for such a great episode!
“Background Check” (Season 4, Episode 6)
This episode is so wonderfully chaotic. In New Girl, the chaotic episodes are always the funniest. In this episode, Winston must undergo a home visit by the police so that he can pass the police academy. It seems relatively straightforward- until you remember that nothing is straightforward when it comes to the rest of the New Girl characters. Jess has illegal substances in her closet and the rest of the gang make an absolute fool of themselves trying to hide it from Winston and the cops. It’s full of jokes, awkward moments, and entertaining scenes. Definitely one of the show’s best episodes!
“A Chill Day In” (Season 5, Episode 18)
In this episode, Jess and Cece throw a chill bachelorette party that does not go at all as planned. Initially wanting a “chill day” for just the two of them, they find themselves at the mall fighting over a bread-maker. They had accidentally smashed the bread-maker that Schmidt’s mother had sent him. Schmidt being Schmidt really wanted the bread-maker, so off Jess and Cece go to find a new one!
At the mall, Jess and Cece are joined by Aly, Winston’s police partner. She aids them in their less-than-legal adventures to get a new bread-maker, which lands the three of them in mall jail. This episode is definitely one of the funniest in the show, despite the guys being absent for most of it.
