Top Mistakes People Make When Trying to Be Healthy

Trying to change your life and be healthy can be overwhelming when there is a wealth of information available online to try and navigate. This new journey you will embark on will entail lots of ups and downs, and trial and error. It is natural to make mistakes on your journey because you have to try things to learn to see what works for you, and what doesn’t. There are many common mistakes that people make when trying to be healthy, and knowing them may just help you get a jump start on your journey.

Thinking fewer calories is better

It is easy to quickly scan the information on a packet and see that the calories are low, and assume this is the best and healthiest option for you, especially if you have a goal that involves losing weight. While in some cases, the calorie count is important for losing weight, it is really important to consider what the ingredients are. Where possible, try to avoid food that has a long list of processed ingredients, including artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, sodium nitrates, and hydrogenated oils and instead choose food with natural ingredients. You could try to make your own, healthier alternatives to your favorite meals and snacks. This way you have more  control over what is going into your food.

Not doing research

Individuals do not need any qualifications to post on social media. Unfortunately, this can lead to information being spread that can be incorrect, or irrelevant. Every individual is different, and what they need to be healthy will be unique. It is important that if you get information from social media, or even from a friend, you conduct your own research before trying anything new, especially if it considers intense exercise or a different diet. The human body is particularly sensitive, and you need to ensure you are considering your body, your lifestyle, your needs, and any medical conditions, before trying something new.

There are a plethora of resources and review websites online, such as Just a One Girl Revolution. This can be helpful to find healthy ideas, exercise routines, supplements, and tips and advice on how you can live a healthier lifestyle. You can also enlist the help of a personal trainer, nutritionist, or other health professional to help you.

Eating the same foods all the time

It might seem like a safe bet, to pick a few foods such as chicken, broccoli, spinach and sweet potato and recycle them throughout the weeks, and the months, but this can be limiting your progress. While eating healthy food on a regular basis is good for you, if you don’t mix it up, you are likely going to get bored, and even begin binging. This typically occurs when you restrict yourself too much. If you are only eating the same few foods, you may also hinder your gut health, which is becoming a popular topic in the health industry, as it has been proven vital to your wellbeing. Research suggests that a diverse diet, with a range of different foods, can enrich your gut microbiome and promote better health, and mental wellbeing. If you are not getting a range of foods in your diet, then you are missing out on key nutrients, minerals and vitamins.

Make your food interesting, try new foods, add a range of herbs and spices, and experiment. The quality of your food, and how you feel about your food, are key to good health.

More exercise is better

Exercise is excellent for your mental and physical wellbeing. Unfortunately, there is such a thing as too much exercise. If you over-exercise, you can put too much stress on your body, which can be detrimental to your health, your weight and lead to a range of medical complications. Living a healthy lifestyle is more than just exercising more. Instead, you should focus on incorporating exercise into your routine. If you are new to exercise, this could be 2-3 times per week, for a maximum of 30 minutes. This could look like a walk in the park, a yoga class, or a weights session in the gym. Exercise can be done in a variety of different ways and should be enjoyable. Exercise is also just one element of many, that will enable you to be healthy. Exercise alone will not work, but in combination with a healthier diet, reducing stress, sleeping well and staying hydrated, you can see great results.

Turning your life around and being healthy can be difficult. Avoid these mistakes to get a jump start and lead a healthier, happier life.
