What is a Twitter Party?
I have had the privilege of hosting quite a few Twitter parties and let me tell you something, I love them. But, it occurred to me that many people may not know what a Twitter party even is.
What is a Twitter party?
A Twitter party is a fun way to party online. Most twitter parties last approximately one hour and bring together people who share a common interest to chat about. Each twitter party has an official hashtag that will be used. For example, when I hosted a Twitter party for the movie, The Best of Me we used the hashtag #BestOfMeChat. Everyone followed along and made sure to include the specific hashtag in every tweet they used.
Why do people come?
Many people participate in Twitter parties to interact online with new Twitter friends. Participating in a Twitter party can help you build your following by finding new people who are also participating. Prizes are also a huge incentive. Most brands that partner with Twitter party host giveaway amazing products and prizes. I have also noticed that people participate to learn. For example, if I was hosting a Twitter party with a make-up line I would share my tips and also learn from others as they share their opinions and ideas when it comes to making up.
Why do Brands participate?
Brands want to get the word out on their company, products, new releases, etc. Twitter parties are an amazing way to do this. With the help of my amazing followers, I have had the chance to host parties that go trending, even trending world wide. This is amazing exposure for twitter party sponsors. Plus, they can follow their specific hashtag for the party to get feedback from their customers and see what ideas people on Twitter are discussing about the specific brand.
How can you keep up?
With the number of people who often participate in Twitter parties it can be really, I mean really hard to participate. I suggest using a tweet deck. It is a way that organizes your Twitter into columns. You can follow the host, the party (#) hashtag, and more. I would also suggest creating a list of Twitter parties that you participate with on a regular basis. You can add the main people who want to follow so you don’t miss their tweets in the mass of all the others.
How can you get the most out of a Twitter party?
Have fun! Be loud and tweet, tweet, tweet! Seriously, you have to participate in the party to be any fun. Plus, based on my experience this usually increases your chance of winning prizes. Set aside some time and give Twitter parties ago. They are a fun way to interact with thousands sometimes even hundreds of thousands of people from your home.
