Where is Blake Jenner?

Who is he…

For those of you who don’t know, Blake Jenner is an actor and singer best known for playing Ryder Lynn on Glee. He’s had major roles in The Edge of Seventeen and the Netflix show What/If. And he’ll be starring in Richard Linklater’s film adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along, which is currently in production (for the next 20 years). Watching this on-set interview, you think – smart, charming, and polite.

What | If

He was married to Supergirl star Melissa Benoist for two years until Melissa filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. But that isn’t the end of the story.

What happened between Melissa and Blake…

In November 2019, Melissa posted a clip to Instagram – stating she’s a survivor of domestic violence after having been in a long-term abusive relationship. She mentions “what it felt like to be pinned down and slapped repeatedly, punched so hard the wind was knocked out of [her], dragged by [her] hair across pavement, head-butted, pinched until [her] skin broke, shoved into a wall so hard the drywall broke, choked.”

The last straw for Melissa was when her abuser threw an iPhone at her face, permanently affecting her vision. According to Melissa, both her and her partner covered up the incident by creating a story about how she fell down the stairs and hit her head on a pot. She went on to tell this story on the Jimmy Fallon show (skip to 3:30), where we see her make her “one-eyed squirt” reference. The original interview clip was later removed.

Although Melissa did not name her abuser, she did mention that he was younger than her and magnanimous. In addition, the Jimmy Fallon interview where she told her fake story was in early 2016, the time which she was still married to Blake Jenner. Based on these facts, fans started suspecting the abuser was Blake.

When fans questioned him (aggressively) on social media, he ceased his online and media presence altogether.

Since November 2019…he’s been MIA on Twitter and Instagram. So far, Melissa’s claims haven’t been proven. But if Blake were innocent, why would he disappear from social media instead of addressing the allegations? And if the abuser were someone else, wouldn’t Melissa say something along the lines of “No, the abuser wasn’t Blake”?

Where could he be now…

If you were to google Blake Jenner, you won’t find his allegations at the top of the search results. In addition, nothing has been written about him in months. It appears that people have moved on, likely because of the pandemic, riots, and everything else that’s going on. Blake Jenner – if guilty – would be pleased with this outcome. If guilty, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s checked into domestic violence rehab. But he’d likely be taking a break from his acting career and keeping a low-profile, which the pandemic would only help him with. Thing is, he’s going to have to come out and address the allegations if he’s planning to act in the future. Especially if he’s currently starring in a film that will take 20 years to shoot.

But is this something we should forget about? I’m aware there’s nothing proven against Blake yet. But if the abuser is guilty and gets away with this, what message does that send to domestic abuse survivors? Whatever’s going on, let’s hope we’ll find out the truth about Melissa’s abuser and make sure he’s held accountable.
