Working Together to Beat Cancer
If new reports are to be believed, fifty percent of people will get cancer at some point in their life. This isn’t as dire as it sounds. You may not realise this but most cancer is treatable. Testicular cancer is by far one of the most common forms of the disease, and it’s also one of the forms with the best prognosis for recovery. As such, you don’t always have to fear the C word. It’s not quite as scary as it sounds. As well as this, science and medicine are taking great strides towards both treatments and indeed curing the disease.
Still, that stat does suggest that cancer is going to be a very serious issue in society over the next few years. It is likely that either you or someone you know will be diagnosed with the condition at some point or another. And yes, many will suffer loss due to cancer. But how do we beat a condition with so many different types that can occur in any age and for which medicine hasn’t quite reached the point of a cure?
We have to work together to have a hope of winning this fight. What does that mean exactly? From the nurses and doctors to researchers and members of the general public, we all have our role to play in fighting back against cancer.
Doctors And Nurses
It is important that doctors, nurses and medical staff are active in educating people about the dangers and signs of cancer. It is true that some types of cancer don’t always have noticeable symptoms. Pancreatic cancer, for instance, can be a silent killer until it is far too late. However, there are plenty of others that do have signs. Breast cancer for instance typically presents when a lump appears in the breast tissue. Sadly, many people die simply because they did not notice the signs when they first appeared. In the case of cancer, catching the disease early always leads to a far more positive prognosis.
Doctors, healthcare staff and hospitals are the ones responsible for educating the public and making sure that they know what signs to look out for and understand when they should visit a hospital. Obviously, the majority of scares are going to be false alarms, but it’s still better to get checked out and make sure that nothing is wrong. Particularly, if the symptoms have been present for more than two weeks or perhaps have grown worse.
This isn’t the only role that doctors and nurses have of course. They also need to treat the disease when it does present itself. The fact is that many doctors and nurses treat the disease but fail to recognise the emotional impact that the illness has had on the victim. In many ways treating the emotional issues caused by the disease is just as important as treating the disease itself.
Researchers
Researchers are constantly looking for new treatment options and methods to explore ways to fight cancer. Every year, more research studies are run, and the results often suggest a great deal of hope for the future. If you view Hera BioLabs and similar companies you’ll see that they run research tests and explore advanced options such as prostate xenografts. Studies like this can help improve treatment plans for patients and lead to a better outcome even after a late diagnosis.
This isn’t the only area of research that is important. Robotics are also key for treating cancer. Tumors can be very messy indeed, twisting around organs or getting tangled in key areas of the body. Brain cancer, for instance, is often very difficult to treat with surgery as a tumour can be impossible to remove. However, with the latest robotics, the precision needed to perform these tasks can be obtained, and the tumour can be moved completely. In some cases, this may be far more effective than the typical treatment of chemotherapy.
These days, researchers are even moving towards being able to create completely synthetic areas of the human body and who knows one-day lung cancer may not be the killer that it is now. Particularly, if a breakthrough in tech leads to doctors being able to make a completely artificial pair of human lungs.
You And I
It’s not just the professionals who need to work to beat cancer. The average person can do their part as well. For instance, you can raise awareness by sharing your story or making sure that the story of someone who you know is heard. By doing this, you can grow support for campaigns to raise money for cancer research that professionals need to beat the disease.
You can also think about actively raising money yourself. One of the ways to do this would be by getting sponsored to run a marathon or perhaps even bake cakes for a charity. There are so many different ways to get involved and fight back against and illness in one way or another. If you look online, you will discover that virtually every charity in the world is looking for volunteers. If you give a little of your spare time, you can do your part to help change the tide against this illness.
Or, how about being there for those suffering from the condition? There are literally hundreds of stories of kindness out there about how someone has helped an individual or family who has been affected by the disease. You can help too, by supporting a family member, a loved one or indeed a stranger in this great time of need.
As you can see, it is only by forming a united front that we can beat cancer. There are so many advances in the world, from VR to space travel that you might be wondering why medical advances are so slow. But the sad truth is they’re not. Medicine just affects your life far more than whether we can fly up into space and that’s why you are constantly watching out for changes that could lead to a brighter tomorrow.
