You Should Be Rewarding Yourself: Tips On How To Do It
If you want to make the best out of both your personal life and your career, you must make sure you reward yourself once in a while when you have done something you feel deserves it. Not only will this make what you are doing more enjoyable, but you will also be pushed (subconsciously) to keep going. Motivating yourself with well-timed and appreciated rewards is always an excellent way to keep working hard. You might have reached a target weight, been promoted at work, completed a project ahead of time, saved the money you needed to, paid off a debt, or anything else. If you feel you deserve a reward, you should give yourself one. Here are some interesting ways to reward yourself when you need to.
Time Alone
When was the last time you were able to spend any quality time by yourself, doing something you really wanted to do? It may have been a while, but it’s so important to step away from the crowds sometimes and allow yourself to truly relax.
People can often feel guilty about having this kind of ‘me time’ because they feel they should always be doing something, but the truth is that if you don’t take time out once in a while, your productivity will go down, and you will make yourself unwell. Me time isn’t lazy; it’s good for you, and no matter whether you play sports, read a book, enjoy art, go for a walk, or watch TV, you’ll be rewarding yourself properly.
Buy Something New
As technology makes it easier for us to simply buy whatever we want whenever we want it, the idea of buying yourself something new may not be that exciting. You can do that anytime, in seconds, often when you are at work or in the middle of making dinner.
In order to make this purchase for yourself a true reward, make the purchase something you have been wanting for a long time. Perhaps something that needs to be saved up for or something you were given gift vouchers for, and now you can finally spend them. Whatever it is you buy, it should be something you wouldn’t usually get for yourself; it should be special. That way, it’s a real reward, and you’ll look forward to it much more. Plus, it will be a reminder of what you can achieve whenever you look at it.
Be Pampered
Letting someone else completely pamper you in a gorgeous, tranquil setting and not having anything else to worry about for a day or so is an immense reward, and it’s no wonder that spa days are extremely popular. Save this reward for when you have achieved something truly special, and you will enjoy it even more.
On a typical spa day, you might have a massage, a facial, enjoy a swim, use a Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, have a manicure, and maybe even indulge in buying some lotions to take back home with you to replicate the good feeling. You will go back to work or your family feeling refreshed and ready to move forward.
You could even treat yourself with a spa day at home if you prefer – you can buy all the necessary ingredients, including indoor saunas, which will ensure you can have a relaxing treat whenever you want to. As long as you are enjoying yourself, it doesn’t matter where you are; do what is right for you.
Take A Nap
Sleeping is fantastic, but it’s highly likely you’re not getting enough of it. Most people aren’t. There is always so much to do and so many chores to keep up with and so many people to take care of that we often get up earlier and go to bed later than is really healthy.
One excellent reward is to have a nap during the day. Make some time for this, and it will help you in a great many ways, even if it’s only for ten or fifteen minutes. When getting ready for your nap, change your pillow cover (it gives you the ‘new sheet’ sense with less work involved), take off your bra, and spray a dab of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil into your pillow to make your nap even more special.
Re-Read A Favorite Book
Resist the impulse to buy a new book for yourself and instead trawl your local library or a second-hand bookshop, or just re-read one of your favorite ‘comfort reading’ novels. It doesn’t matter if you know the story inside out; that’s the point. The comforting nature of going back to an old favorite will help you relax, and it makes reading (which is already a reward in itself) so much more enjoyable.
Reward Yourself With Things That Matter To You
As you reward yourself, make sure you’re spending your money on the things and activities that you actually want, enjoy, and are valuable to you. Why? Because the more in tune you are with spending money on what you value, the less likely you are to feel dissatisfied, which can easily lead to overspending. For example, if you value spending time with loved ones, you might spend your fun money on activities with them, such as meals, movies, and so on.
Remember that you don’t have to spend money to have a nice time. Put on Netflix and make some homemade popcorn, and you’re really spending very little, but you’ll still enjoy yourself immensely and feel as though you have earned your reward.
It’s critical to reward yourself for objectives you want to achieve, goals you’re working on, and targets you’ve already achieved. It not only feels great, but it can also help you reach your objectives (and many more in the future). In reality, there are many advantages to rewarding oneself (besides just enjoying the reward). That’s why, when you’ve done something that deserves a reward, no matter how big or small it might be, you should take the time to work out how to celebrate. It will pay dividends when you do.
