Southern Candied Thanksgiving Yams Recipe

Ingredients include sweeet potatoes, sugar, marshmallows, cinnamon, and more!

Wash, peel and dice whole sweet potatoes into 1/2-inch rounds and place in baking dish.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Heat white sugar, butter, cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, nutmeg, cloves, and a pinch of salt into a small saucepan over medium heat until you have melted butter.

Stir in your vanilla extract to the brown sugar mixture and butter mixture then remove from heat.

Pour the candied mixture over the sweet potatoes and stir the potatoes to make sure each slice is covered in the sweet syrup.

Once done, remove the foil and carefully spoon some of the cooking syrup over the yams and continue a baking time of 20-25 minutes uncovered.

When the sweet potatoes can be pierced with a fork and the cooking liquid is a sugary syrup they are done.

Cover the top of the sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until melted and golden brown.

Let it cool and serve warm!
