The Top 12 Places to Visit in Lawrence, Kansas

Lawrence is a fun college town that has a lot to offer. There are so many great places to eat at, sight see, and have an overall good time. If you get the chance to take a day trip or even spend the weekend in Lawrence, you should definitely do it. If you’re a fan of basketball, be sure to visit during March Madness–Lawrence has got a lot of KU pride!

1.Munchers

Munchers is a delightful bakery that cooks many tasty treats daily. All of the desserts are baked fresh and there’s so much to choose from. My absolute favorite are their cream cheese brownies and their strawberry cream cheese filled donuts. They literally have every delicious kind of dessert that you can think of! Plus, the prices are amazing. If you’re a fan of sweets, this bakery has to be on your list.

2. Perry Lake

Just Northwest of Lawrence, Perry Lake is absolutely gorgeous and a pretty secluded area. There are some great fishing spots. It’s serene and peaceful–you’ll love the sounds of nature while you’re going for a swim or taking a ride on your kayak. Plus, there are plenty of gorgeous areas to take some pretty epic selfies. If you love wildlife, you’re sure to have a blast.

3. Wake the Dead Restaurant

Don’t be fooled by the name, there is nothing in this bar that will scare you. Well, not too much…If you love themed bars, you’ll appreciate the quirky decor featuring skeletons. Yet the best part of this place is their breakfast and drink menu. Be sure to try the Fruit Loops Cereal Killer drink and the Donut Fingers. You and your friends are bound to have a great time.

4. Lawrence Antique Mall

This place is huge! You’ll find anything from antiques, DVD’s jewelry, cowboy boots, to cool kids toys. With three different stories, this mall is the biggest and the most interesting. You could literally spend hours checking out all of the cool merch that they have to offer. You’ll find both things new and old at the Lawrence Antique Mall but it’s guaranteed that there’s something for everyone.

5. The Java Break

Are you a breakfast food person? Do your find yourself loving cereal more than life? Well, the Java Break is the place for you to go. They offer 24+ varieties of cereal from you to choose from along with your choice of various toppings such as M&M’s, Chocolate Chips, Coconut, and many more. Plus they have some pretty amazing coffee and soda drinks too.

6. The Museum of Odd

You guessed it, this museum is filled with many odd things. You’ll see anything from sock monkeys to collectible Elvis Presley artifacts. If you’re a fan of bizarre and obscure places, this museum should be on the top of your list. You can even take a personal tour with the owner, Randy Walker.

7. The Dusty Bookshelf

This “gently read” bookstore has a lot to offer. Firstly, it has a cute and cozy atmosphere that you’re going to love. They have everything from children’s books, contemporary literature, to classics. If you’re a bilingual or have an interest in different languages, you’ll love the Foreign books section.

8. Lawrence Beer Co.

Love beer? Head over to the newly opened Lawrence Beer Co. to try out a variety of delicious beers. This hip and rustic bar also features some delicious food menu items such as Truffled White Bean Dip and Fried Avocado Tacos. It’s the perfect hipsters paradise.
